Trade Rumors

Posted By: Adam Beechen
June 19, 2007 12:54 PM

Ah, summer. When the inconsequential NBA Finals are over at last (all NBA Finals that don't involve the Suns are inconsequential), and a young blogger's thoughts turn to wheeling, dealing, drafting...and trade rumors.

If you have a basketball card of Paul Mokeski, the Suns just might want to talk about a deal.
(NBAE Photos)
For me, thinking about next season began the day the Suns were eliminated from the playoffs. Who will stay? Who will go? How will the Suns look to improve themselves for next year’s run at the trophy?

Now, with action on the court finally at an end, other teams and their fans are wondering the very same things. Can we pry that superstar away from his team with an offer of only three stale hot dogs, Paul Mokeski’s rookie card, and one alternate throwback road jersey once worn by our trainer’s sister? Is that Bratislavan combo guard with crossed eyes and a peg leg able to create his own shot, and thus worth taking in the first round? The draft is a week or so away, and we’ll begin to get some of our answers then. Until that time, however, all we have is speculation… and rumors.

No doubt, you’ve seen the names of some of the current Suns surface in these rumors. Some of the names show up every offseason, it seems, while others are making their first appearance. Only a tiny, tiny fraction of these rumors ever come to fruition, meaning they’re mostly a source of irritation for these players… it’s not like any of them are loading moving vans at the first whisper of trade possibility. And some of the rumors are downright ridiculous.

Which is why I’d like to use this space to deny some of the more outrageous trade rumors I’ve heard thus far in the off-season…involving ME.

• NO, the Suns are not trading me to the Lakers even-up for Kobe Bryant. The Suns would never trade me within their own division.

• NO, the Suns are not trading me to the Timberwolves for Kevin Garnett. My contract specifically allows me to veto any trade to any city where hockey is more important than basketball, and where the temperature never rises above, “I don’t think my lips are supposed to be blue.”

• NO, the Suns are not trading me to their arena maintenance department. The maintenance department staff didn’t want to upset their chemistry. I can respect that.

• NO, the Suns are not trading me to Indiana for Jermaine O’Neal. However, they have said that if they can get Tito, Marlon, Jackie, and Michael O’Neal in the deal, they might consider it.

• NO, the Suns are not trading me to Chicago for a package including Luol Deng, Andres Nocioni and Thabo Sefolosha. Reportedly, the Bulls felt “Adam” was too difficult a name to pronounce.

• NO, the Suns are not trading me to Orlando for Billy Donovan. Donovan reportedly has the right to accept, refuse, accept, refuse, accept and refuse any deal (Sorry, couldn’t help myself).

• NO, the Suns are not trading me to Boston for Theo Ratliff, Delonte West and the Celtics’ first-round draft pick. The ghost of Red Auerbach insisted the Suns throw in the Grand Canyon and the Painted Desert, and the Suns backed off – after much discussion.

• NO, the Suns are not trading me to the Nets for Vince Carter, as New Jersey feels exchanging “Half-Man, Half-Amazing,” for “Half-Man” isn’t an even swap.

• NO, the Suns are not trading me for Commissioner David Stern’s mustache, circa 1984. Apparently, the mustache failed its physical.

• NO, the Suns are not trading me to Atlanta for Joe Johnson, whom the Suns would send back to Atlanta for their first round picks in 2010 and 2011, the 2010 pick being lottery protected and the 2011 pick being non-lottery protected, which the Suns would then send back to Atlanta along with their own second-round pick in 2009 and the Hawks’ 2008 first-rounder, which isn’t lottery protected, for Joe Johnson and a conditional third-round pick from 1987 because everyone’s heads exploded and their was no one left to do the deal.

• NO, the Suns are not trading me to Portland for the draft rights to Greg Oden. Yes, as a Suns fan, I feel kind of bad about that one, too.

So there you have it. I hope that puts all these scandalous rumors to rest once and for all. I am a Suns.com blogger now and forevermore, and the Suns have no plans to move me to any other franchise, no matter how big the offer might –

Excuse me, that’s my phone.

Hello? Yes, this is he. I’m what?! To where?! Oh, for Pete’s sake, I just got done writing a column saying this wasn’t going to happen! Well, where am I going? Really? They still have a team? Well, what did you get for me?

Paul Mokeski’s rookie card? Not bad!

Matt - Tucson
Its getting harder n harder to watch the Suns let us down n the playoffs EVERY year. Its way past time to get a big man, lord knows we've tried EVERYTHING else & it obviously for all the money & exerience the decission makers have they can't seem to do it! So FIRE them ALL immediately! NO more frivelous trades, keep ALL the starters we can, LB, Bell & "maybe" a couple others, then if we can't get Dirk or Shaq then do WHATEVER it takes to get Greg Odem, quit rolling over n the playoffs, it's gotten VERY old, try something new, n win a championship already!!! I am giving U perals for free!!!!

Lori Ann - Sedona Superfan
Alright, YOU - I'm already stressed (excited too) enough, about trade rumors! The one constant that really bugs me, is how quick the Suns are, to trade our younger talent. Every NBA game I watch; which happens to be ALL of them that are televised, I see a former Sun. These former Suns are playing great ball and winning championships. I applaud them and their teams. I would just love to see the Suns BUILD and KEEP a super-cohesive team. This involves time, sacrifice, patience, patience, patience, and trust. I know there are many college grads looking to move up into the NBA; that's a given. I just get almost ill, watching our Suns come and go prematurely. How are we to build a dynasty, if we have a revolving-door mentality? In Great hope for MY Phoenix Suns; the ones playing for Phoenix! Keep The Matrix !!!

Lori Ann - Sedona Superfan
PS. Thanks for this article, Adam. I've been anticipating some trade news and comments---especially from you! FYI: I set the highest bid on e-Bay for Paul Mokeski's rookie card with zero knowledge of this player.....so, don't EVEN think of packing your bags! You're in Phoenix to stay----God Willing! You are just too valuable to our Suns and to fans like me !!!

bob c - Philippines
SUNS forever!!! yeah that's us baby

Lori Ann - Sedona Superfan (learned something new)
Paul Keen Mokeski (born January 3 1957 in Spokane, Washington) is a 7-foot former NBA player out of University of Kansas and Crespi Carmelite High School, most noted for his tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks. After his playing career ended, he coached in the CBA and ABA, but was fired from the Kansas City Knights in July of 2000 when he was arrested for possession of cocaine.

He is frequently referenced by sportswriter Bill Simmons as one of the least athletic men ever to have a career in the NBA.

Currently an assistant coach with the Fort Worth Flyers of the NBA D-League.

Valerie - Phoenix
Hahahahahaha...Seriously, Superfan, if they EVER traded you, I would go down to US Airways Center, dragging all my friends with me, holding signs, screaming until I had no voice, and protesting the decision. I would cry if you stopped blogging for the Suns! I love reading your blogs! The reason the Matrix keeps coming up in trade rumors is because everybody wants him...and the reason YOU keep coming up in trade rumors is because everybody wants you, too! Why wouldn't they?!

alberto perz - phoenix az
I AM VERY TIRED OF SAYING NEXT YEAR WHAT ABOUT KNOWN NASH IS NOT GETTING YOUNGER.... TRADE FOR GARNETT AND WE WILL GET PAST DA WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS.. DA PROBLEM IS THAT DA SUNS ARE SCARED TO TAKE A CHANCE...

Bobby Shelton - modesto ca
We all know the suns are known for their team chemistry and that is why shawn marian must not leave phoenix.marian was marian before nash came hes been the true face of the suns in the 2ks.teams like san antonio have great team chemistry and phoenix's core has the same. You just cant mess with it it is only getting tighter.I beleive barbosa had the most dissapointing series.Watching him shoot so poorly really killed us I think he suprised alot of people in contrast from the series before.we ran alot of plays to him too many too get nothing back in return .He is young and i love him but we put alot of trust in him being one of our main perimiter shooters and we never got the boost off the bench this series we had all season long.manu ginobli sorry to say was the better 6th man in that series hands down no competition.Im a true suns fan just telling the truth.

Jeri - Phoenix
They better not trade Shawn Marian for anyone!

clark - philippines
suns should get players from europe. . .for nash's back-up,get spanoulis from greece..for bell, they should get gianluca basile of italy or juan carlos navarro of spain. . for amare, acquire luis scola of argentina, . .but it would be very best if garnett will land in phoenix. . .

Josh Knape - Glendale
Hello. I like Shawn Marion, and know his strengths (athleticism, rebounding, defense) completely outweigh his weaknesses (ballhandling, height). But he needs to go. It's not just the money per se, esp. since Mr. Sarver has suggested he might swallow the luxury tax to keep Marion. It's that Marion's hogging of the minutes at his position *and* the size of his contract interfere with adding depth, at any position. And he doesn't get along too well with Amare Stoudemire. I saw the two of them go for the same rebound during the Lakers series; from the look of it, they were thinking "After you--no, after you," and in any case, it was awkward enough to make me uneasy. Someone has to start replacing Marion in the playoffs when he disappears every year. That's going to be a lot harder if he stays. It's trade him for one or more players who can replace his skills but be paid less money, or keep him and see next year's playoff series against the Spurs be a clone of this one.

Linda - Peoria, Az
Big mistake to trade our core players. Look how well they did just playing together for a year!

We need a better bench. Marion is the heart of the suns! Please dont trade him!!!

john - mesa
The edict to trim 8 mil. from payroll (by Sarver) is real. Someone(s) must go! The signing of Banks was a gigantic mistake and Jalen Rose to a lesser degree. The fact the Matrix wants to be center stage reminds me of Joe Johnson, he is gone, so will be Marion! He and Stat don't play nice together anyway. You better all hope we can pull the trigger on someone like Garnett. The Suns need size and toughness to compliment the speed we already have. I am afraid we will just dump payroll and pray for a miracle to come out of the first round of the draft. Time will tell!

Keep hanging in there superfan!

felix - kayenta, AZ
IN MY MIND I FEEL THAT THE SUNS SHOULD TRADE FOR KEVIN GARNETT, BECAUSE I FEEL THAT, THAT'S WHAT THE SUNS NEED IS A BIG TIME SCORER INSIDE, THEY HAVN'T HAD ONE YET, SINCE CHARLES BARKLEY. THE SUNS SHOULD TRADE, BORIS DIAW, MARCUS BANKS, KURT THOMAS, AND SOME DRAFT PICKS TO MINNESSOTA FOR KG. G-STEVE NASH SG-RAJA BELL C-KG F-AMARE SF-SHAWN MARION, HOW'S THAT FOR A STARTING LINE-UP. THAT'S A CHAMPION CALIBER TEAM. ON THE BECH WILL BE LEADRO, GRANT HILL, ERCI PIAKOWOSKI, LUKE WALTON. TWO MORE FREE AGENTS. THIS TEAM WILL NOT ONLY HAVE SPEED, BUT ALSO PHSYICALLITY, AND MORE DEFENSE.THEY'LL BE EXCITING TO WATCH.

Shaun - Scottsdale
Matt from Tucson, I don't want to call you out too much, but we can't just nab franchise players or signed centers for nothing, especially mid-contract. Regardless, the Suns don't need to stress about trading, Stat shouldn't pack his bags for KG, Stat has more youth and just as much talent; Marion shouldn't start buying warm clothes for Boston because Marion is WAY too valuable to be shipped off for a 5th round pick and Ratliff. Oh, and Marion for technical foul master Rasheed Wallace? We all know that Stat gets a lot of technicals that aren't his fault, just bad officiating. Regardless, the refs hate us enough! Taking Rasheed would KILL our character emphasis. Keep the core, try once more!

Ron - Arizona
Love the SUNS...they are so exciting to watch game after game throughout the season. They are great basketball players and seem like good people. However, to win a CHAMPIONSHIP, I believe the SUNS need a a BIG MEAN SOB in the center position. I would look for an NFL lineman who can run or a champion WWF type who would have a bad attitude for anyone being in the paint with them. What is that classic definition of 'insanity'..."continue to do it the same old way, and expecting different results". The SUNS need a BIG MAN in the CENTER POSITION to win a CHAMPIONSHIP. GO SUNS....

Mark Martin - Buckeye
As you can see SUNS need Defense to win it all. It's time too take a chance and get GARNETT. Marion,Diaw, and some picks should make it happen.

Jarod Groleau - Albuquerque,NM
I've been a Sun's fan all my life, born and raised in phoenix. But, I think if the opportunity arrises to get a player like Kevin Garnett, then I would trade Shawn Marion because think about a low post of Garnett and Stoudemire with Nash dishin them the ball. Besides you need a prolific shot blocker to compliment stoudemire like garnett to deal with the likes of duncan, if we want to win. And phoenix is #1 on garnett's list. so, why not grant him his wish?

Yojimbe - Buena Park
Shawn Marion, Marcus Banks, #26, #29 to Minnesota for Kevin Garnett, Troy Hudson. It makes a lot of sense. for both teams.

Freaking A - Ahwatukee
The coach needs to create a strong bench and actually utilize it and the Suns need to trade Marion for Garnett. Marion's game is not suited for the playoffs and he cannot create his own shot. Yes he fills up the stat sheet but he doesn't win championships and he's over paid.

Christopher - Chandler
I would much rather see Shawn Marian in a Suns uniform than Kevin Garnett. DONT TRADE SHAWN!

Brittany - Phoenix
Here's the first step to creating

a Championship team;

KEEP SHAWN MARION.

They're already on their way,

to me it seems like trading the Matrix

is a few steps backwards.

Make that a few hundred.

kd - surrey bc canada
NO TRADE NEEDED WOULD HAVE WON IF THERE WAS NO GAME 5 SUSPENSIONS SCREW THE SPURS THEY DIDNT DESERVE IT. WELL SEE U GUYS IN THE PLAYOFFS NEXT YEAR

JDT - Corrales, NM
Keep Marion, Nash, Stat and Barbosa. They are the core of this team. Trade any combo of the others for an all-star or potential all-star to complete the team.

Jason Ecenbarger - Chandler, Arizona
The latest rumors that have surfaced about trading amare for garnett better not come true. I think the suns shoudl do there best to put a package togeather that DOES NOT include amare. IF they can get it done that way then it will be worth it. What better can you ask for other than to have this starting line-up. Nash, Bell, Diaw, Garnett, Amare! Now that my friends is a team alot of people would be envious to have!! Don't trade Amare!!

Robert S - Heber Az and Gillette Wy
howdy all!!! Just a quick note to say KEEP THE FAITH!!!!! Our front office will not ruin our team, after all, Steve Kerr has been there on both sides of that coin!!!!

walt - china
trade pat burke for KG straight across.

Promise - Pheonix
I Belive the trade for marion for Garnett is a good decision, Garnnet with Nash and Amare would be to powerful. Garnnet is wise and still got the touches,do i say deal!!!

Howard S in - Chandler, AZ
I'm I the only that feels we are a 3 point threat away from a championship? In other words, a Mike Miller, Kyle Korver, Jason Kapono- type player away from the elusive crown?

Brandon Miller - Virginia
Dude LB was playing hurt dude i guess you didn't notice the arm sleeve. I love the suns and would hate to see marion go, but garnett would be way more valuable to us. Hes another big guy and can create his own shot in clutch moments. He might be older but hes more consistant. Any way suns couldn't catch a break in the spurs series lets not be to hard on them have faith they'll get the job done before the nash era is over! GO SUNS!!

Omri - Israel
I sincerely hope the suns take the playoffs next season, i order a new personalized jersey for this season's playoff and i didnt yet get to wear that and run half naked in the streets....

I LOVE the way the team plays and i hope theyed keep it this way and not start playing inside more then they should, fastbreaks and threes have always been my favs....

Anyways, hope the drafts will come out better then any trade possible although our picks arent really amongst the 1st ones...

GO SUNS!

Brad - Tempe
Trade Banks, Thomas, and Marion for KG = CHAMPIONSHIP

Joe Iresabal - Surprise,AZ
No doubt that Shawn Marion is a tremedous player for the Suns. His defensive play on the two, three and four position player is very strong. He rebounds with passion and heart, runs the floor extremely well, and jumps with abandon. Teamed with Leandro Barbosa, these two Phoenix Suns players are the quickest teammates in the league. Barbosa exhibits an explosive first step, a great shooting eye and his overall play earned him the Sixth Man of the Year award. This tandem is extremely talented and served the Suns well over the 2006 - 2007 season. Would I like them to remain with the Phoenix Suns for next year. Very much so...but the team will not be in position to win the West with them. Marion is asked to play out of position on the floor and must score baskets as a third or fourth option. Barbosa is a scorer out of the Vinnie Johnson mold. He can drive against softer players and shoots extremely well from the three point line. He can develop into a very good point guard. However, at this time Barbosa does not make those around him better. As a point guard he finds the open man, but never creates assists on the floor. And he never finishes strong, does he ever dunk the ball?

You can say what you want about this opinion, but until the Suns have an answer for the front lines of the Spurs and Mavericks it will be early exits from the playoffs.

The answer is in Minnesota. Kevin Garnett at the center position makes the Phoenix Suns hot!!!!! He wants to play here. All the leverage in any transaction is present for pulling this deal off. Package our two very good players and draft choices to the Timberwolves. We have an abundance of first round picks over the next two years. The dollars involved in this trade can be reconciled over several years with Garnett signing a new contract, and the removal of Barbosa and Marion from the payroll. I love Marion, but this deal makes too much sense.

Jim Griffin - Los Alamos, NM
Don't even think about trading Marion. He is the glue that binds and the heart of the team. My feeling is that if you trade Marion you become a first round team at best.

If you absolutely, positively have to trade someone then let it be Stoudamire. Maybe Boris can be great again with him gone. Remember? And just maybe you can trade up in the draft or get a center who is tough, agile, big, can run the floor and is able to hit shots in "crunch" time.

Gary - San Diego
PLEASE DO NOT TRADE ANYONE!... Look, if "you know who" hadn't decided to do his best Sadam imitation, we would all still be poppin' the corks and celebrating well into rest of this month!... I heard Jim Rome talking this morning about the Suns and that they should pull the trigger on a trade for Amare for Kevin. Someone please tell me this is nothing more than a rediculous rumor! I mean that would top the DJ for Rick Roby disater if it were to happen! Amare is destined for greatness and I personally want to see it happen in his current uniform's colors. If Minn wanted those 4 number 1 picks the Suns have the next 2 years, I'd say welcome to The Purple Palace KG! Other than that, PLEASE DON'T BREAK IT IF ISN'T BROKE!!!

Rog - Prescott
In case some of you people that are tired of the Suns letting you down every year in the playoffs have not noticed--only 2 out of the 30 teams each year go to the finals. And that is only if David Stern give the nod for that to happen--so wake up and realize that the Suns are exciting to watch, win lots of regular season games and go a lot farther in the playoffs than most teams do.

Rog

Pink - Whidbey Island, WA
Careful with the trades Suns! We've seen so many bad ones. We've got the best team in basketball right now. Let it ride. (Nice call on the 6th man -he'll do better)

Kevin - Scottsdale
I am sick tired of rumor and it will be the BIGGEST mistake if Suns trade Shawn Marian. They should focus on the 24th & 29th picks and have deeper bench whom willing to step up and help the team out.Therefore,7 man rotation ain't going to take you to the championship game.

Hector Zaragoza - Phoenix
Keep the "MATRIX"

edz - philippines
they better trade shawn marion so they can play a taller guyz, if im the owner i will trade marion and bell for KG, and barbosa will play the two guard position, i believe this line up will have a big impact to the league... tust me!!!!!!!

Jimmy - Phoenix
If we wanted KG, I think we would need to give them marion (Daiw or LB) and our first round picks. We have to keep our young talent like amare and preferably LB off the bench.

If we had KG nash amare daiw and bell our starting 5 we would do some damage.

As to what someone said before me, Marion is the heart of the team but Kg and Nash want rings and marion wasnt producing good offense that KG could have. Speaking if we did get KG

anthony - -showlow
Ithink they should trade shawn marion because look, what did he do for us in the playoffs nothing he might help us in the regular season that's why we get the 60-20 wins but if we can get somebody justs as good we might not lose again

Chris J. Scott - Las Cruces, NM
Could you imagine if the Suns were in the Eastern Conference? We would have gone to the championship series for the last 3 or 4 years and would have probably won one. The NBA is lop-sided even though the Heat won it last year. The records prove it. I love my Phoenix Suns. I have been following them since the 1976 NBA championship series when Paul Westphal and Alvin Adams led the only chance that we had to win it all.

Marques - Bremerton, WA
No Trades!!! Next year will be our year. We were cheated out of the finals by the NBA. We'll come back stronger and hungrier for the title next season.

Jordan - Phoenix
Matt are you kidding me. Who is letting us down? Besides winning it all what else can the suns do for us in the last three seasons? Every playoff exit in the last 3 years has been controversial. Trade for Shaq??? Are you being serious? That would be the worst idea ever in our system. We have an organization that always produces a contender over the last 39 years! Keep our system; we are going to win it all in 2008. Nash leading us all the way! Go Suns!!!

jonah - Glendale
Destiny...Just was not their year...very close though, a few baskets made instead of missed. A defensive stop or two. Amare and Boris in game 5. Major moves are not needed IMHO just another season of hard work...

tim williams - lansing mi.
we dont need trades all we need is a deeper bench with added big men

Lori Ann - Sedona Superfan ready for action!
Did anyone happen to see the 2007 Sunsational Special, on NBC last night (Sunday)? It was a great summary of clips and wonderment of our 06-07' incredible run. Tom Leander, gave a pretty good hint to Steve Kerr about our ALREADY "in-place" roster. After watching that recap of our "SUNSational" season, I just can't bear to see any one of the Suns being traded. We have an incredible team indeed. Tom posed the question of what is needed or lacking in our ability to go all the way. I think the Suns must continue to grow together, as a team- hence, a better well-oiled machine. The SUNS really ARE an amazing team already! We COULD use a deeper and stronger bench, I think. I'm ready for the season to get under way !!! In the meantime, I'm really enjoying the book: Loose Balls, from Adam Beechen's recommended reading list. Have a happy and safe July 4th...........celebrate!

Josh Kotschedoff - Fountian Hills,az
Don't trade anyone, We are coming closer and closer every year to win this championship, are guys are getting more and more expirenced and i think next year is our year, this could be a dynasty, we went 61-21, the second best record this team is improving every year and to trade anyone of our stars for another one would be ludacris and it would mess up what we have going as a team. Dont Trade!!

Lori Ann - Sedona Superfan
...was just reading the NBA Daily. KG for OUR Amare' ?! Hmmmmmmmmm. While Kevin Garnett is a great player, we've yet to see the best from STAT. Just say, NO DEAL ! I'm going to work off some of this crazy-nervous energy at the driving range ! Have a great day Suns fans !!!

Davey - Minneapolis, MN (from Chandler, AZ)
"...any city where hockey is more important than basketball, and where the temperature never rises above, “I don’t think my lips are supposed to be blue.”"

HAH! As a previous resident of Phoenix, AZ attending college at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, I can only agree.

As a matter of fact, that is the very reason that I'm going to opt out of my University Rec-center C-League Intramural Basketball contract--where I pay them $20 to let me play for a 'Free Agents' (rejects) team-- after finishing my senior year. So! To my many fans (me x 1000), have no fear! Dave's coming back to the valley for the 2008-09 season, and I'm brining the no sitting rule at SUNS games back with me.

Chip - Quezon City, Philippines
SUNS FAN FOR LIFE HERE!

Like Kobe, the Suns' Big Three have the right to have a great supporting cast. And please! DON'T TRADE SHAWN MARION!

Victor - San Luis, AZ
I've been hearing a lot of trade rumors to get Garnett to the Suns, and its giving me a headache that I can't know what is really happening. Why would the Suns want to give up Amare Stoudemire and a draft pick for Garnett???? Stoudemire is still young and fresh and has a big career ahead of him. Garnett is hungry for a NBA TITLE! I think the best trade possibility to help bring a championship to the Suns is Garnett, but who to trade? This is very hard to say, I have been a Phoenix Suns fan all my life, and even though he has been with the Suns for his whole career, I think the better man to trade would be Shawn Marion. I love how he plays, love his character and everything about him, it would be a great lost, but you have to give up big things to receive bigger things. Garnett and Stoudemire with Nash and the rest of the Suns, the whole NBA should look out for this team!! GO SUNS!!!

Carlo - Moreno Valley, CA
I heard a trade rumor for Amare or the Matrix for Kevin Garnett. First of all, its a bad trade. Kevin Garnett is not a team player where he will mess well with the chemistry of the existing Phoenix Suns team. We traded good players in the past from Joe Johnson, Michael Finley to Steve Nash, and only Steve Nash had the heart to come back with the Suns. We just need another Kurt Thomas, and we can get another center without trading our key players.

All I can say, "The existing team is improving every season and I know Amare and the Matrix is working hard for the Championship."

DO NOT MAKE THIS TRADE!!! AND BE PATIENT. OUR TIME WILL COME.

Cory - Colorado Springs
You want the truth?? The Suns need to deal Marion for Garnett. First off, let me start out by requesting that you please learn how to spell Marion's name before spouting off about how he's the face of the franchise. Obviously, either he's not doing a very good job, or you're dreaming. Three words and an accronym: Steve, Nash, MVP, talk. Come back when you hear Marion's name in MVP talk, then we'll talk about the face of the franchise. Next, Steve Nash played for PHX in 96-97, backing up K.J. Marion started in 99-00, so when you say that Marion has been around longer than Nash, you're wrong there also. Please read your stat book a little closer before thinking you're God almighty next time.

Now, moving on. I am begging Suns fans not to fall into the Phoenix Coyotes Syndrome, or PCS. PCS occurs when teams believe that all they need to do is "tweak" the team a little bit and presto-chango, they will be a contender. WRONG! You can see by the Yotes 2nd worst record and 3rd overall pick that the PSC philosophy doesn't work. Now, I'm not trying to compare the talent levels of the two teams, but PSC won't work for the Suns either, we need help. If we had ATL's fourth pick (damn ping-pong balls), we would be sitting pretty, able to draft Horford or Yi or Brewer or Noah. But in case you didn't notice, we have the 24th pick, not the 4th. That means we end up with a mediocre big man in the likes of Josh McRoberts, Marc Gasol, Kyle Visser or Aaron Gray. If you think any of these people can help us win a Championship, you're kidding yourself. (On a side note, the Spurs have just as many picks as us in the first two rounds, at approximately the same times, so we're not going to gain anything on them.) The Suns are in need of a big man. Who's out there?? Hmm, Kevin Garnett. In case you haven't heard, he's pretty darn good. In fact, he's averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists for 9 years!!!

dominic - atlanta
i am a life long fan of the suns and these rumor trade for minn. and atl does not make since for the suns, do not trade away the best young big man for a anyone. do not deal Amare Stoudemire, if you do than next year draft you are not going to get a lottery pick. atl will make the playoffs in the east with stoudemire and johnson as the key to the team. if you keep and just wait going into the 09 season with aa lottery pick will make the team better in the long run.

Curious - Phoenix
KG for Shawn. One NBA star for the other, why not. I wouldn't mind. KG for Amare. Still lacking in defense. Not a solution. KG for Diaw and Kurt. Not the best investment but feasible for next year Championship.

Huge Suns Fan...........Would not understand trading Stoudemire (his best years are just beginning) Garnetts are ending........Love to have Garnett but not at that cost.

YAY DAVEY !!!!! You get 'em all standing, and I'll promise not to throw any more frozen Ding Dongs on the ice at hockey games !!!? Deal? HA! Love your spirit !!! ......in hope .....

Betty - Dallas (yes, Dallas!)
Please tell me that the Suns are NOT thinking about trading Amare for Garnett, PLEASE!!! Amare is young and a great player. He had an amazing season coming back from the knee injury. No, no, no!!! Don't trade Amare!!!

Rumor says suns gonna trade Amare for KG, is that true? I hope not, Amare is 10 times better than KG. Marion+Diaw is considerable, no offence but Suns need another big guy.

Felix - LB on the bench next season? Were you sleeping through the end of the regular season and into the playoffs, or what???! I'll just keep the faith along with Robert and co. (Howdy to you too, Robert). Amazing how we went from "FREE AMARE`!!!" to: DON'T even think about it !!! We'd be crazy to let him go! The Suns will be running on a hampster-wheel, at this rate !!! I hope the Suns' staff will give our current team a chance to gel. How 'bout Jalen Rose for KG ? (Yes. I'm a dreamer!) Why did we acquire Jalen just to let him warm the bench ALL season ? That STILL boggles my mind. ......In hope.....

Suns fan because of Shawn Marion. Most forget about the entire year when Amare was not on the floor. This year Amare gets most of the glory but Shawn was doing alot if not most of the dirty work. Let's be real. Who on the team will bring the kind of versatility that Shawn brings? My suggestion...keep them both and let them settle it off the court if they are having chemistry issues. As always keep in mind that their is no "I" in team. It will take all the pieces that the Suns have now plus a bench to win it all next year.
